watch music and hear video?

so i was watching some music videos today and had a thought that maybe someone could answer for me:

why even bother "sing" in a music video?

in a music video, artist are always singing, and playing their instruments and all that jazz. but why? what's the point? the music you're hearing is what they recorded in studio, or at a concert etc. which fits the fine if thats what the video is. but whats the point in "singing" aka lip syncing? you can't do it live but you can do it in a video? couldnt the video do without it? in most cases, i think it could. they don't need to convince me that they are the ones singing or the ones that made the song. i know. and even if i questioned it, i wouldn't turn to a video for validation. it doesn't need to be validated. i know that they wouldn't sound like that if they were (insert video scenario here). i know the track that's playing was recorded in a studio. i just think the lip syncing in the video is unnecessary and superfluous. i personally would prefer watching a mini-movie type video. they should put more thought into the production and try to make something worth watching, it is a VIDEO. there are good videos out there but definitely not enough. "hey make sure you get the bassist playing!" why? i know what a bass sounds like and i know what it looks like and if i care enough i know who the bassist is. so why show them, in the video, playing the bass? kinda redundant. for all i know, they could just be picking away notes randomly, which i don't doubt. it's also a waste of video don't you think? i'm watching it because i want to WATCH something. isn't that the point of a video? if i just wanted to hear it, i would download it, turn the satellite station the plays music genres all day, or listen to it somewhere else.

namm zain?
(know what i'm saying?)

i think youre missing my point. my "rant" is about the production of the video. that's fine to put a face with a song but i dont see the point in showing a video, that's not of an actual on stage performance or recording, that involves fabricated vocals and instrumentals. do you need to put a song to a face singing the song? why not just perform in context of the video? really if you'd just like to put a face to a song then what's wrong with lip syncing a concert or performance? if you're going there to see the band and not experience the rawness of the band live, why not just have them on stage pretending to play? wouldn't you then be doing the same thing? i just think there are other ways to get around making a video that just make more sense (maybe just to me) logically.

for example:
video by the faint

for a bad example..... i really don't want to take the time to find one. ha.

air ‘all i need’. a video shouldnt showcase a song, it should be the song (ps, love it when a remix is only available in the video)
