what does 3 and 0 mean?

i don't know why more coaches give their batters a green light to swing away when it's 3-0. More than likely you're getting a pitch pretty close to one you get in batting practice, right down the middle; also know as meat. when i played, i got SO many hits off 3 and 0 pitches. my coaches got heated sometimes when i did it on my own, but why not? of course it depends on the situation but i think it should happen more often. i need my own baseball team.....

sorry to get all baseball on you.

Because if the pitcher screws up, he walks you, and it's probably more likely he'll screw up than you actually getting a hit and actually making it to base.

right. IF the pitcher screws up but i'm sure the percentage of pitchers (depending on level of play or course) that throw 4 straight balls, or cannot throw a half-assed fastball for a strike is pretty low. the best pitches you're going to see are at 3-0, 3-1, and the first pitch.

i can understand that if you can get a free base, why not?! but if you're always looking for the best pitch the hit, then why not actual swing at the best pitch? where are you trying to get to? first base or as far around the bases as possible?

i just think it should happen more often.

The pitcher wants you to hit his 3-0 pitch because you probably are going to ground/pop out or create a double play.

wouldn't he ideally want that on every pitch?

mm hmmmm.

all I'm saying is it doesn't hurt to take a chance once in awhile. it's like stealing.

or maybe i'm just the man........
